The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has begun pre-registration for motor vehicles for the 2025 registration period.

The pre-registration exercise is to ensure smooth registration process of vehicles ahead of 2025.

According to the DVLA, the official licensing of motor vehicles will begin on Thursday, January 2, 2025 at their offices across the country.

In a press statement, DVLA noted that owners of vehicles will get smart cards and certificates of title with details of their vehicles.

The new registration plates of vehicles will bear a “25” suffix to prove the year of registration in accordance with Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (L.I 2180).

The statement also indicated that the registration is in two stages thus owners of vehicles would have to submit their vehicles to DVLA offices together with customs entry documents to be inspected and validated at authorized Vehicle Testing stations this December as first stage.

On January 2, 2024, owners of vehicles can finish the process by making payments, capturing of biometric information and collecting registration documents in the second stage.

DVLA entreated owners of vehicles to take advantage of the pre-registration exercise to facilitate smooth registration of their vehicles ahead of 2025.

DVLA also emphasized that the online registration system has played a vital role in enhancing the efficiency and security of the process.

“We are committed to ensuring the safety and convenience of our cherished customers”.
