The Insurance Industry in Ghana most often than not receives criticism and complaints from a lot of their customers and their clientele for deception and the refusal to pay them their due when they make insurance claims.

But it has been revealed that the problem associated with customers not receiving their claims mostly stems from the fact that Ghanaians who buy insurance do not fully understand the policies they buy. Part of the problem also has to do with insurance agents failing to properly educate their clients at the point of sale.

Insurance giant making waves and changing the dynamics of the industry in the country, Hollard Ghana has explained that problems associated with claims can be resolved through thorough education on the exclusions associated with buying policies.

Emmanuel Akwada, Head of Distribution at Hollard Life Assurance gracing the studios of Happy 98.9 FM in an interview with Samuel Eshun, host of the Happy Morning Show stated, “Speaking on the issue of claims in the insurance industry, most people don’t understand the policies they buy and sometimes blame the insurance sellers for refusing to pay out claims.”

Emmanuel believes that should every insurance company in Ghana adopt the approach of Hollard Ghana, the constant battle between insurers and the insured over claims will end.

“At Hollard Ghana, we make the education of our customers a priority. We explain the circumstances under which they receive their claims or forgo them. That way, they know when to come to us and when not to.”

“It all boils down to educating your customers,” he reiterated.

He advised insurance buyers, to always make enquiries on exclusions when buying insurance. Emphasizing that if insurance buyers do that, they will know which incidents they are covered under should the unexpected happens.

Mr. Akwada who could not overemphasize the regard Hollard Ghana has for its customers indicated, “We educate our customers on the right things and that has made our claim process easy.”

The group which has integrated technology into its processes has made claims stress free by sending them electronically to their customers. “You don’t need to come to our offices to receive your claims but customers can receive claims through mobile money and bank transfers.”

To make insurance attractive and demystify it to the ordinary Ghanaian, the group has made itself accessible by undertaking free education on insurance to interested groups.

Hollard Ghana, with subsidiaries Hollard Insurance and Hollard Life Assurance, combines its deep local knowledge of the market with the world-class expertise of an international insurance brand.

With feet firmly planted on Ghanaian soil but Headquartered in South Africa, Hollard delivers innovative insurance solutions customized to the unique risks Ghanaians face.
