The family of the late Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, along with the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), have announced the burial arrangements for their beloved son and top official.

A statement issued by the family and party leaders confirmed that Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, who also served as the Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, will be laid to rest today, following Islamic funeral rites.

The announcement was signed by notable figures, including Alhaji Sharif Savannah, Alhaji Baba Sambii, Afa Abdul Somed Faarukiya, and leading NDC officials such as Haruna Iddrisu, MP for Tamale South and Minister for Education; Alhassan Suhuyini, MP for Tamale North; Attah Issah, MP for Sagnarigu; Ali Adolf Mburidiba, Northern Regional Minister; and Abubakari Adam Takoro, Mayor of Tamale Metropolis.

According to the release, all mourners are to converge at the Anbariya Islamic Institute in Nyanshegu at 10:00 a.m. for the Janaza Islamic funeral prayers. After the prayer, the body will be transported to the Zujung cemetery for interment.

“May the soul of our beloved brother rest in Jannatul Firdaus.” the family wished in the concluding part of the statement.

The late Murtala Mohammed tragically lost his life on August 6, 2025, in a military helicopter crash that also claimed the lives of Ghana’s Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, and several others. His passing has sent shockwaves through the political landscape, especially in the Northern Region, where he was a key figure in political engagement and development.
