The global football community paused to remember Ghanaian icon Wilberforce Mfum at FIFA’s 75th Congress in Asunción.
Delegates observed a minute of silence to pay tribute to the former Black Stars star and other prominent football figures who have passed away since the last Congress.
News of Wilberforce Mfum’s death deeply saddened Ghana, where he is revered as a key member of the legendary 1963 Black Stars squad.
That historic team brought home Ghana’s first Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) trophy, a feat that cemented their place in the nation’s sporting heritage.
The passing of Mfum further diminishes the ranks of that celebrated squad. Now, only three surviving members remain – Dodoo Ankrah, Kofi Pare, and Anum Okai – following the loss of Leonard Acquah the previous year.
