The Western Regional Security Council together with personnel from the second Infantry Battalion, the Police and Western Naval Command, have arrested at least 56 illegal miners at Kadadwen in the Tarkwa-Nsuem Municipality.

The operation was carried out in about seven illegal mining sites in the municipality on Thursday, March 13, 2025.

The suspects, including 47 males and 9 females have been handed over to the Western Regional Police Command for investigation.

In subsequent operations in the Ahanta West Municipality and the Mpohor District led by the Western Regional National Security Liaison officer Brigadier General Musa Whajah, three motorbikes, nine pumping machines and three excavators were seized.

They also burned 25 Changfang machines during the operation.

Musa Whajah disclosed that the operations form part of the government’s fight against illegal mining.
