Minister for Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has announced that Germany has granted Ghana €65 million to support key national development projects.
The announcement follows a successful three-day state visit to Ghana by German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations.
The grant was confirmed during a high-level meeting between President John Dramani Mahama and President Steinmeier at the Jubilee House on Monday evening. The two leaders also signed a new cooperation agreement to deepen partnerships in governance, trade, and human development.
According to Ablakwa, the €65 million priority project grant reflects Germany’s renewed commitment to supporting Ghana’s growth agenda, particularly in regional security, trade expansion, and youth employment. The initiative also includes opportunities for young Ghanaian professionals to work and train in Germany.
He further expressed optimism that the strengthened ties would lead to tangible improvements in education, infrastructure, and other key sectors, urging Ghanaians to anticipate meaningful progress.
President Steinmeier’s visit forms part of his West Africa and Egypt tour, which began on November 1, 2025, in Egypt, where he attended the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum. His tour includes Egypt, Ghana, and Angola, with a focus on promoting renewable energy, youth empowerment, and stability in the Sahel region, areas that align closely with Ghana’s national development priorities.
