The Technical Director of Inter Allies Football Club, Willie Klutse has urged Ghanaian coaches to infuse the practice of taking penalty kicks and set pieces into their training programs on a consistent basis.

According to him, most of our coaches in Ghana do not spend much time in training the players how to take penalty kicks and set pieces.

In an interview with Odiasempa Kwame Oware on Wamputu Sports, Klutse explained that the lack of practicing penalty kicks during training is what is affecting the players in the country.

“When you visit every training ground apart from the drills, they don’t spend time to teach the players how to play penalty kicks in training. Most of our Ghanaian coaches do not add penalty kicks and set pieces to their training programs. Unless we get to the FA Cup when there is a possibility of playing penalty kicks.”

He proposed that coaches in Ghana must consistently take their players through penalty kicks during training which will help them to develop the skill.

“You need mental toughness and focus to be able to play the penalty kicks. We have to urge our coaches to infuse penalty kicks into their coaching programs during their training days at least twice in a week”.

Kluste kicked against the idea by the Executive Council to introduce penalty kicks after every drawn game in the league.

“The idea to introduce penalty kicks in the league after every drawn game will be not be of help and might even compromise the league”.

“The proposal by the Executive Council will not help and it might bring confusion”, he added.
