The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has instructed all its members to join a nationwide strike starting on Monday, July 15, 2024, in alignment with the broader strike declared by Organised Labour. The GMA said this strike aims to press home the demand on the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) to terminate the sale of 60% of its shares in four hotels.
According to a statement dated July 12, the GMA’s National Executive Council (NEC) decided on a phased approach to the strike: From July 15 to 17, 2024: Outpatient Department (OPD) services will be withdrawn. From July 18 to 21, 2024: Emergency services will be withdrawn. Starting July 22, 2024: All services will be completely withdrawn. The GMA urged its members to follow this roadmap unless instructed otherwise by the Council.
