Government has announced significant support for the National Peace Council (NPC) as part of efforts to strengthen peacebuilding and conflict-resolution initiatives across the country.
According to the Minister for the Interior, Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka, the government has provided the Council with three brand-new pickup vehicles, several motorbikes, and a new office space to enhance its operations nationwide.
Muntaka also revealed that the government is partnering with the Gaming Commission to construct a seven-storey Peace House, which will serve as the permanent headquarters for the Council and accommodate other peace-related agencies.
As part of its core mandate, the Council is working to popularize Ghana’s annual Peace Index and Peace Map, with a target to officially launch the next edition in September. These tools are expected to support evidence-based planning and early warning interventions.
The Minister added that the government is collaborating with the Ministry of Finance to address outstanding allowances and resolve funding challenges that have hampered some of the Council’s activities.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to peaceful conflict resolution, community cohesion, and long-term stability, describing the NPC as a key partner in sustaining national harmony.
