The Minister for the Interior, Mr. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has reviewed the curfew hours imposed on Nalerigu Township and its surrounding areas in the North East Region.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, the Minister said the decision was taken on the advice of the National Security Council and effected through an Executive Instrument.

The revised curfew will now run from 8:00 pm to 5:00 am, effective immediately.

The government has urged Chiefs, Elders, opinion leaders, the youth, and residents of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the prevailing challenges.

The statement emphasized the need for non-violent means in resolving differences and called on all stakeholders to work together to ensure lasting peace in the area.

Meanwhile, a total ban has been placed on the carrying of arms, ammunition, or any offensive objects or weapons within Nalerigu Township and its environs.

Authorities have warned that any person found in possession of such items will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

In addition to the weapons ban, the Interior Ministry announced further restrictions, including a ban on the movement of motorbikes, wearing of smocks, selling of fuel in containers, and all forms of unlawful assembly.
