Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has confirmed that arrests have been made in connection with the alleged assault on nurses and other health workers at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge).

Mr. Akandoh said he was certain of the arrests and urged the public to allow the police to complete their investigations.

“I can tell you that some arrests have been made. Anybody who says otherwise is not speaking the truth and is not ready to help solve the issue,” he stated.

The Minister, however, declined to confirm whether Ralph Saint Williams, identified in a viral video as one of the alleged attackers, and his accomplices were among those arrested.

“We should leave the police to do their job. I won’t sit down for things to go wayward in my sector. No one is above the laws of this country,” he stressed.

His comments follow a 48-hour ultimatum issued by the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), demanding the arrest of the suspects or threatening further action.

In response, the Minister announced the formation of a five-member committee to probe the incident.

“The probe will be twofold, administrative by the ministry and criminal by the police. The law will take its own course,” he explained.

Mr. Akandoh added that government is receiving regular updates and assured healthcare workers of their safety.

“The system is running, and as we speak, I’m getting updates. We are on course,” he said.
