Immediate past president of the Ghana Football Association is still Development Chief of Wa despite his role in corruption scandals that hit the association recently.
Mr Nyantakyi was enskinned as Development Chief of his hometown Wa with the title, Jen Jeng Naa Sung Maale in 2015.
Jen Jeng is a famous crocodile pond in Wa while Sung Maale – which means ‘Development’ in the native Wala language.
In an interview with Ohene Bampoe–Brenya on Happy FM‘s Anopa Bosuo Sports, Naa Kadir Ibrahim, spokesperson for Wa Naa stated that, “Wa Naa Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo IV recognises the fact that there might be legal implications of Kwesi Nyantakyi’s actions. But as at now, Kwesi Nyantakyi is still the sub divisional chief of Wa until found guilty by a competent court of law.”
He added, “Wa Naa overlord of the Traditional Area of Wa is apologizing to the president of Ghana and Ghanaians as a whole on behalf of his son, Kwesi Nyantakyi. Just as we have forgiven others in the past, why not do the same for Kwesi Nyantakyi. He is a sub divisional chief of Wa.”
In 2015, Mr. Nyantaky was enskinned as the “Boole Naa” (Football Chief) by the Dagkpema Naa of Tamale for Ghana’s achievements in football since he became GFA President.
Mr Nyantakyi was captured in an undercover investigation conducted by the TigerEye PI in which he made damning commentaries about the president of the country and his vice as well as other ministers of state.
He also received an undeserved $65,000 from the supposed businessman who was, in reality, an undercover journalist.
On Friday, Mr Nyantakyi resigned from office but not without apologizing to the president of Ghana.
His apology and resignation came a day after the government announced dissolution of the Ghana Football Association and hours after FIFA banned the embattled football president for 90 days.
He has also resigned from his position as the CAF 1st Vice president.
