Deputy coach of the Black Stars Maxwell Konadu could not hide his joy after one of his proteges Emmanuel Boateng hogged the headlines in Spain with his hat-trick for UD Levante in their 5-4 win over Barcelona in the Spanish Laliga on Sunday.
The 21-year-old became the first player in 13 years to score three goals in a LaLiga match against FC Barcelona, since Diego Forlan for Villarreal in 2005.
By virtue of the victory, the Frogs ended the Los Cules’ 43-game unbeaten streak in the Spanish top flight league.
Konadu in an interview with Kumasi-based FOX FM indicated the rise of the former Charity FC marksman as sudden and surprise to many.
“I am very happy to have discovered him (Emmanuel Boateng) for the Black Stars and for Ghana,” Konadu said.
“I went to him at Levante and the club told me he is now the one of the hottest strikers in La Liga, we hope he continues with this performance so that he does same for Ghana.”
Boateng also has become the first Ghanaian player to score against both Real Madrid and Barcelona this and in the same season.
