The Minority in Parliament has urged the Ministry of the Interior to refund about GH¢113 million collected from applicants who did not qualify in the recent security service recruitment exercise.
The demand follows a disclosure by the Minister for the Interior, Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka, that more than 105,000 applicants have progressed to the medical stage of the recruitment process, even though only 5,000 slots are available for final enlistment.
The Minister also revealed that close to 500,000 people applied for positions within the country’s various security agencies.
Speaking to journalists on Thursday, March 12, 2026, the Ranking Member on Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, John Ntim Fordjour, accused the government of exploiting applicants and called for a probe into the recruitment exercise.
He argued that the government created the impression that more opportunities were available by expanding the age limit for applicants from 25 to 35 years, which he said encouraged many more people to apply.
Rev. Fordjour said the government was aware from the outset that only 5,000 recruits would be selected but still allowed nearly half a million people to apply and pay recruitment fees.
He further alleged that many applicants were eliminated during the aptitude test stage due to technological and internet disruptions.
He therefore called on the government to refund the money collected from unsuccessful applicants and ensure greater transparency in future recruitment exercises to prevent what he described as financial exploitation.
