The Member of Parliament for Manso Adubia and a member of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Agriculture, Yaw Frimpong Addo, has voiced serious concerns about the budgetary allocation for Ghana’s agricultural sector in 2025.
According to the MP, the funds earmarked fall significantly short of what is required to drive meaningful growth and transformation in the sector.
In an interview with Kwadwo Sefah Danquah on Happy 98.9 FMs morning show, Mr. Frimpong Addo emphasized that agriculture remains the backbone of Ghana’s economy, employing over 45% of the population and contributing roughly 21% to the national GDP.
Despite its critical role, he noted that persistent challenges such as low productivity, limited access to quality inputs, and inadequate credit facilities continue to hinder progress.
He called for urgent strategic interventions, including increased investment in research, seed development, and input supply systems, to ensure food security and economic resilience.
Without a substantial boost in funding, he warned, the sector risks stagnation at a time when Ghana’s population and food demands are rapidly rising.
