The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has mourned the passing of former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, honouring her as a woman of exceptional impact whose legacy will forever shape Ghana’s political and social landscape.
In a heartfelt statement, the party described the late Mrs. Agyeman Rawlings as a pioneering force in women’s empowerment. It highlighted how her leadership of the 31st December Women’s Movement significantly improved the lives of countless women and children across the country.
“Mrs. Agyeman-Rawlings was a remarkable woman whose lifelong dedication to the advancement of women and children has left an indelible imprint on Ghana’s history,” the statement read.
Beyond her role as First Lady, the NDC emphasized her instrumental role as one of the party’s founding architects, contributing greatly to its early vision, values, and identity.
While acknowledging that she later established a different political movement, the NDC stressed that her foundational contributions remain highly revered and integral to the party’s story.
The statement also recalled a memorable moment earlier this year when, on June 22, 2025, during an anniversary celebration, the NDC publicly honoured Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings as the Founding Mother of the Party. This recognition, according to the NDC, was a profound expression of appreciation for her enduring influence and service.
“That honour, bestowed during her lifetime, was a testament to the NDC’s deep respect for her historic role in shaping our journey,” the statement added.
The party extended heartfelt sympathies to the Rawlings family, especially her children and loved ones, praying for strength during this painful period of loss.
“May the soul of Mrs. Konadu Agyeman Rawlings rest in perfect peace,” the tribute concluded.
