The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has assured Ghanaians that there is no need for alarm over recent reports of petrol shortages in the northern part of the country.

In a statement issued on January 10, 2025, the NPA revealed that measures to address the issue are being developed by a Technical Committee on Energy established by the Chief of Staff.

The statement outlined a three-phased approach designed to resolve the logistical challenges identified.

The statement indicated that the NPA has commenced a load-off of petrol from the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation (BOST) depot in Kumasi as a special dispensation from Kumasi Oil Marketing Companies to supply retail outlets across the five northern regions.

The NPA has also made arrangements for Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) in Tema to load additional petrol from depots in Tema to supplement supplies being transported from Kumasi.

NPA in collaboration with BOST, have made arrangements to move nine million litres of petrol from the Buipe-Bolgatanga pipeline into storage at Bolgatanga to serve retail outlets in the affected regions.

The NPA emphasized that all three measures are being implemented simultaneously to ensure a swift resolution of the problem.

“We wish to encourage the consuming public to go about their normal business and avoid panic buying. The NPA reassures
Ghanaians of adequate fuel stocks in the country, with vessels lined up to discharge additional products.” the statement read.

The authority reiterated its commitment to resolving the issue promptly and maintaining sufficient fuel supply nationwide
