The National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, has issued a strong warning to the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), accusing the majority side of orchestrating a deliberate campaign to intimidate and silence outspoken NPP MPs in Parliament.

Addressing a press conference at the NPP headquarters in Asylum Down, Accra, on Tuesday, December 9, Nana B said the NDC had targeted the party’s Minority Leadership, especially Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin and other influential NPP figures in what he described as a calculated agenda to weaken oversight and cripple parliamentary accountability.

He stated that the NPP would not allow what he called an “evil plot” to succeed, stressing that the party remains united, vigilant and ready to defend its mandate.

According to him, the NDC’s strategy was clearly aimed at muting the strongest voices holding government to account, but the NPP would ensure its presence and influence in the House remains firm.

Nana B emphasised that the NPP would continue to expose what he termed “government’s fraud, corruption and abuse of power”with “relentless clarity,” adding that the party would deploy every legitimate parliamentary tool to prevent any attempt to stifle the will of the people.

He insisted that attempts by the majority to suppress minority MPs amount to an attack on Ghana’s democratic foundation and would be resisted without hesitation.

“Attempting to mute the Minority is an attack on democracy itself, and we shall resist it outrightly,” he stressed.

Nana B cautioned the governing party not to mistake the NPP’s commitment to peace for weakness, warning that exercising restraint should not be interpreted as surrender.

He criticised “outrageous and biased judgments” and recent “threats of a parliamentary confrontation”, saying such actions threatened the integrity of the country’s democracy.

He also condemned suggestions from some individuals within the NDC that certain legitimately elected NPP MPs should be prevented from taking their seats in Parliament. Nana B described such moves as “dictatorship masquerading as law,” arguing that they were designed to undermine the sovereignty of voters.

With a firm declaration, Nana B emphasized the NPP would not stand by while democratic institutions are weakened.

“We will not be silenced while you pervert justice. We will not allow you to criminally annex seats you could not win at the ballot box,” Nana B stated.
