The Member of Parliament for Atiwa East, Abena Osei Asare, has described the establishment of President-elect John Mahama’s Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) Committee as unlawful and unconstitutional.

Speaking during a thank-you tour in her constituency in the Eastern Region, the MP, who also serves as the Minister of State at the Finance Ministry, questioned the rationale behind creating the five-member committee chaired by North Tongu MP, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.

She argued that there are already existing state agencies mandated to handle corruption-related issues, making the creation of a parallel committee unnecessary. She also raised concern about how the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government intends to act on the findings of a committee that lacks legal backing, emphasizing that such efforts would have no enforceable impact.

Abena Osei Asare urged the incoming government to avoid rushing into actions that are not grounded in constitutional principles.

Reflecting on the outcome of the 2024 elections, the MP acknowledged the disappointment of Ghanaians and the decision to vote against the New Patriotic Party (NPP). However, she expressed gratitude for the goodwill she continues to receive from her constituents and expressed confidence in the party’s ability to recover and return stronger in the future.
