The Bono East Regional Police Command has arrested six suspects in connection with the robbery of GH¢300,000 on the Portor-Gurumpe Highway, following a swift response by officers on duty at the Portor Police Barrier.

In a statement signed by the Bono East Regional Commander, DCOP Shaibu A. Sadique-Osei, said police personnel received intelligence at about 8:30 p.m. on July 19, 2026, that a robbery was in progress a few metres from the barrier. Officers immediately proceeded to the scene, where four suspects fled into the bush. However, police arrested Abdul Sadat Ali, 24, the driver of a Toyota Voxy with registration number AS 1541-25.

The statement said preliminary interrogation led to the arrest of Samad Issahaka, 24, driver of a Kia Rhino with registration number AS 7337-23, after he was identified as a member of the robbery gang.

Police investigations revealed that Yahaya Seidu, 35, owner of the Kia Rhino, had instructed his driver to transport him to Buipe to purchase cattle. Knowing his employer was carrying a large amount of cash, the driver allegedly conspired with five others to rob him.

The suspects, armed with a toy pistol, reportedly trailed the Kia Rhino from Offinso in the Ashanti Region before intercepting it shortly after the Portor Police Barrier, where they robbed the occupants of GH¢300,000.

The statement said personnel from the Police Counter Terrorism Unit, supported by the local patrol team, pursued the fleeing suspects into the bush and arrested Abdul Rahman Mashud, 21; Asigri Avoka, 25; Awini Stephen, 19; and Faisal Salifu, 26.

A search conducted on the suspects led to the recovery of the entire GH¢300,000 allegedly stolen during the robbery.

During interrogation, the suspects admitted trailing the victims from Offinso and carrying out the robbery after receiving information from Samad Issahaka, the statement added.

All six suspects are currently in police custody and are assisting with investigations.

The Bono East Regional Police Command commended the professionalism and alertness of officers at the Portor Police Barrier and the Counter Terrorism team for their role in the successful operation, reaffirming its commitment to protecting lives and property in the region.
