Ghana Women’s Premier League champions Police Ladies FC are through to the semifinals of the WAFU Zone B Women’s Champions League qualifiers after a decisive 3-1 victory over Togo’s ASKO on Saturday, August 30.
With qualification on the line in their final Group B game, Yusif Basigi’s side showed their intent early. Deborah Afriyie broke the deadlock to calm nerves before Sophia Maabena doubled the lead. ASKO, however, pulled one back before the interval to keep the contest alive.
The Ghanaians returned from the break determined to finish the job, and Afriyie struck again to restore their two-goal cushion, sealing an important win at 3-1.
In the other simultaneous group fixture, Nigeria’s Bayelsa Queens thumped Benin’s Sam-Nelly FC 4-1, a result that cleared the path for Police Ladies’ qualification.
The victory sets up a mouthwatering semifinal clash against tournament hosts ASEC Mimosas on Tuesday, where a place in the final will be at stake.
