President Akufo-Addo has rubbished the contents of the Agyapadie document, which is widely believed to outline a plan for state capture during his administration.

Giving his comments on the Agyapadie document at the inaugural Ghana Report Summit, under the theme, “Dealing with Misinformation and Disinformation –Election 2024” he mentioned that some political elements are responsible for the said document.

“In the run-up to the 2008, 2012 and 2016 presidential elections, I was a target of numerous false and malicious stories attacking my credibility and integrity. In 2008, baseless allegations of drug trafficking were spread, along with numerous rumours about my health intended to cast doubt on my ability to serve as President” he said.

The President noted that politics should focus on issues rather than personal attacks.

He furthered that since the Agyapadie document emerged in the media, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has firmly denounced it as false.

“Nevertheless, some Ghanaians believe that recent developments in the country seem to reflect the document’s contents, leading them to question its validity” he said.

“In 2016, it was alleged by sympathizers of the opposition that, I had killed my late wife with a few months to the 2024 elections, they are at it again. The fabricated document entitled ‘Agyapadie’ is being spread around by operatives of the opposition as evidence of a grand scheme by my party to annex the assets of the state,” he mentioned.

The President mentioned that misinformation can have great consequences on Ghana’s democratic stability and believes that it is the responsibility of all Ghanaians avoid any form of manipulation, interference or intimidation, including the pernicious spread of false information.

He advised all Ghanaians to remain vigilant and proactive in addressing emerging threats.
