The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has advised its officers stationed in the Bawku enclave to prioritise their personal safety amid increasing security threats in the area.
Deputy Comptroller General of Immigration, Lord Ofori Afrifa, issued the warning following recent violent incidents targeting security personnel, including a fatal attack on Immigration officers in Tempane.
Addressing officers during a meeting in Bawku on Thursday, November 6, 2025, Mr. Ofori Afrifa stressed the need for heightened vigilance and adherence to safety protocols while on duty.
“As we have been engaging our officers, we have also cautioned them to take their personal security seriously, especially along our borders. We must remain conscious of the operational environments we work in, as well as the risks and dangers associated with our duties,” he said.
He underscored that while professionalism and duty remain paramount, the safety of officers must always take precedence. Mr. Ofori Afrifa further noted that the Service is collaborating closely with other security agencies to strengthen coordination and improve protection for personnel operating in high-risk zones.
The Bawku area has recently experienced renewed outbreaks of violence and targeted attacks on security officials, intensifying calls for enhanced security measures for officers deployed to the conflict-prone region.
