The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has confirmed the death of six potential recruits following a stampede at the El Wak Sports Stadium in Accra on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.

The tragic incident occurred during the first phase of the ongoing GAF 2025/2026 recruitment exercise.

President John Dramani Mahama, together with the Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Acting Minister for Defence, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, and Deputy Minister for Defence, Ernest Brogya Genfi, visited the 37 Military Hospital to assess the condition of those injured in the incident.

Speaking to the media after the visit, the Commander of the 37 Military Hospital, Brigadier General Evelyn Vivian Abraham-Kwabiah, dismissed reports suggesting that 12 people had died.

According to her, the hospital received 28 casualties from the stampede, six persons have been confirmed dead, five are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and 12 are in critical condition, while the rest are stable.

Brigadier General Abraham-Kwabiah urged the public to disregard misinformation regarding the death toll, assuring that the Ghana Armed Forces will continue to provide accurate updates as the situation develops.
