A US-based Ghanaian couple, Douglas and Mavis Darkwah heralded the new year by opening an ultra-modern event center known as the Gray’s Event Center, in Virginia, US.

The 7,000 square feet plush event facility located in Woodbridge, Virginia, aims to meet the banqueting and event needs of individuals, groups and organizations in proximity to the Washington DC, Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) area.

Commenting on the couple’s motivation to set up the facility, the CEO of Gray’s Event Centre, Mr. Darkwah cited the costly nature of events in the DMV area and other inconveniences experienced by event attendees as well as organizers in the area, as their motivation for taking the bold step.

“Events are meant to be enjoyed; not endured and living in the DMV area for over 24 years, we have experienced the complications people go through when they try to organize big and small events, especially the high costs involved,” he said. He believes the center has different packages to meet the expectations and budgets of diverse individuals as well as organizations. “It does not have to cost an ‘arm and leg’, to bring people together for a cause, whether to have fun or to mourn,” he added.

The relevance of an event venue for hosting a good event cannot be ignored, as Forbes in a 2019 article on keys to a successful event planning cited the venue as the number one and a crucial step in hosting a successful event.  Considering its location and cost-effectiveness, the Gray’s event center has promising features that can make any event memorable.

The opening of Gray’s Event Center will come as  refreshing news for event planners in the DMV area, as it is endowed with a 300-seating capacity ballroom, spacious warming kitchen, large floor space/ dancefloor, networking lobby areas, ample parking spaces and other amenities that make it convenient for weddings, galas, political events, etc. Adding to the convenience of patrons, the Gray’s Event Center has made available online and social media booking available to eliminate long processes experienced whiles booking similar facilities.
