Former Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu has blamed president Akufo-Addo and former Speaker Aaron Mike Oquaye for the current crisis in Parliament.

According to the Member of Parliament for Temale South, he warned the President and the Speaker to be careful about the precedent they were setting in 2020 by former Fomena MP Andrews Asiamah for going independent.

Haruna Iddrisu told journalists in Parliament on Thursday, November 7, 2024, that the “chaos” happening because of the declaration of four seats vacant is because of what happened four years ago.

“When I had the opportunity to lead the Minority in Parliament, I told the president Akufo-Addo and Speaker Mike Oquaye to be careful about the precedent they were setting by removing the Fomena MP from Parliament because he went Independent.”

“They didn’t listen to my caution four years ago and what we are seeing today is because of that precedent they set. So blame them,” Haruna Iddrisu said.

Meanwhile, Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has adjourned Parliament indefinitely after the NPP caucus boycotted the recall.

I called Trump to congratulate him - Kamala Harris says at concession speech in Washington D.C. Kamala Harris, the U.S. Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate, delivered her concession speech at Howard University in Washington, D.C., following a closely contested election against Republican Donald Trump. Late on Wednesday, Harris shared her empathy with supporters, acknowledging the disappointment many felt over her loss. “I know people are experiencing a range of emotions right now, but we must accept the results of this election.” Before her speech, Harris mentioned that she had called Trump to congratulate him on his victory, stating, “Earlier today, I spoke with President Trump, congratulated him on his victory, and told him we will help his team with the transition and ensure a peaceful transfer of power.” Former President Joe Biden released a statement praising Harris after her speech: “She will continue the fight with purpose, determination, and joy. She remains a leader for all Americans and an inspiration for future generations.” The audience expressed disappointment, with some grieving the missed chance of seeing Harris as the country’s first Black female president. Many supporters also voiced concerns about potential challenges to their rights.
