Akyem Wenchi Chief, Oseawuohene, Daasebre Dr. Asumadu Appiah has said that the youth of Wenchi and it’s environs cannot stop galamsey regardless of the campaign against it.

According him, the youth in Wenchi do not have any means of putting food on the table apart from illegal mining activities.

He also said, even though the Government has imposed a ban on illegal mining in Ghana when it’s come to Wenchi, it will be difficult to stop it.

The chief of Wenchi suggested that the government should rather regulate community mining.

“Chiefs who are custodians of the Land should be consulted in utilizing the natural resources hence giving permits to mining companies without the knowledge of the chiefs doesn’t augur well and it must stop”.

Daasebre Asumadu Appiah revealed this when Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, NPP flagbearer paid a courtesy call to his palace as part of his campaign tour of the Eastern Region.
