Majority Chief Whip in Parliament, Hon. Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor has commended the intentional efforts made by Ghanaian legislators to maintain democracy in Ghana.
In an engagement earlier today, Thursday May 22, 2025, with a delegation from leading Ghanaian radio station, Happy 98.9FM, the Member of Parliament for South Dayi Constituency explained that parliament plays a vital role in maintaining Ghana’s democracy. He indicated that the healthy discourse between the two respective sides in Parliament reflects Ghana’s regard for democracy. “Parliament is democracy and democracy is parliament. Without Parliament, you don’t have democracy running.”
“Parliament is symptomatic of a good democratic system so when your parliament functions well, your democracy thrives.”
The legislator added that Ghana has gained global recognition for it’s democratic values, speaking volumes about the effectiveness of it’s legislature. “I can say on authority that our democracy – Ghana’s democracy is increasingly being regarded as the best on the continent. ” he asserted.
Acknowledging the minor hitches that emerge from time to time, he said resilience is a value that is exercised to overcome and enhance service to the nation. “It’s not as if we don’t run into crises but when we run into crises and persons from other jurisdictions think that this one, it will explode somehow it tapers down and life goes on; people love the peculiar resilience of the Ghanaian to weather the storm,” he said.
