The Ministry of Sports and Recreation is preparing to appoint Kumawood actor and football administrator Samuel Yaw Dabo as Ghana’s Grassroots Football Ambassador, recognising his growing influence and commitment to youth football development.
The announcement follows a video circulating on social media in which Sports Minister Kofi Iddie Adams is seen informing Dabo of the Ministry’s intention to honour him for his remarkable contributions to grassroots football. The meeting took place in the Minister’s office, where Adams emphasised the government’s renewed focus on strengthening the base of Ghana’s football ecosystem.
The Minister highlighted that the initiative forms part of broader efforts to engage credible figures who have a direct connection to youth development.
“What we are saying is that the Ministry has seen what you are doing, and just like what we did for Abedi Pele by appointing him to the Inter-Ministerial Advisory Board on Sports, we will do the same for you,” Kofi Adams said.
He added: “We will make you our sports ambassador, especially for grassroots football, because that is where we see what you do, and we are happy with your impact.”
As Grassroots Football Ambassador, Yaw Dabo will be tasked with promoting youth participation in football nationwide, supporting talent identification programmes, and championing efforts to improve development structures at the community level.
Yaw Dabo, who owns Dabo Soccer Academy in Kumasi, has gained national praise for opening opportunities for children from deprived communities and grooming young talents through sport.
