Black Stars coach Milovan Rajevac has named five home-based players in his 30-man provisional squad for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations tournament, as earlier reported by Happy Sports.
The players named in the squad are, Richard Attah (Hearts of Oak), Fatawu Issahaku (Dreams FC), Philemon Baffour (Dreams FC), David Abagna (Real Tamale United) and Maxwell Abbey-Quaye ( Great Olympics).
Abagna has been rewarded for his outstanding performances in the ongoing Ghana Premier League as he currently leads the goal king chart with eight goals in nine appearances.
Maxwell Abbey Quaye has also been very influential for Great Olympics this season in the absence of Gladson Awako and has scored a quite number of goals for the club. The duo has been handed their debut national team call-up.
Missing in the squad was Asante Kotoko defender Abdul Ganiyu who was part of the team during the qualifiers under former coach Charles Kwabla Akonnor.
The local contingent will fly out to Doha, Qatar on Wednesday, December 23, 2021 to begin preparations ahead of the tournament.
The four-time Africa champions will open camp in Doha, Qatar on December 23.
The team will be in Doha for a period of three weeks to prepare for the Tournament scheduled for Cameroon from January 9 to February 6, 2022.
The Black Stars will play three international friendly matches in Qatar to give Coach Milovan Rajevac the opportunity to assess his squad for the Tournament.
