Former Ghanaian Sprinter, Emmanuel Tuffour, says Ghanaians should lower their expectations of athletes representing the country in competitions.

According to him, Ghanaians need to exercise patience with athletes because it would take time and constant practice for them to win championships.

Speaking on Happy FM’s Wamputu Sports show, he said, “I have said this on several occasions that, the expectations we have on our athletes is too much.

Especially looking at the likes of Azamati, he needs to be given time which I think at least two to three years would do and in the next two to three years we would have a world champion”, he told Joe Debrah.

“There are different levels of competitions these athletes compete in which at each level require a certain degree of competitiveness which lots of Ghanaians have no idea about”.

He further explained that it took him seven years before he could come into the limelight so it takes time and constant practice so, Ghanaians should exercise patience for these athletes.

Emmanuel Tuffuor, born December 2, 1996 is a retired Ghanaian Sprinter. His best performance in a global event was a seventh place at the 1993 World Championships, but he failed to qualify for the final by 0.01 second.

Tuffour is one of the current national record holders in 4 by 100m relay with 38.12 seconds, achieved at the 1997 World Championships in Athens.
