Former President John Dramani Mahama has vowed to rein in the politicization of Ghana’s key institutions if he wins the presidential election on December 7, promising to restore their independence and integrity.

In a social media post on Tuesday, June 25, former President John Dramani Mahama announced his plans to implement constitutional reforms aimed at curbing the politicization of key institutions, such as the judiciary and electoral commission, which have been compromised under the current government’s watch.

“I will curtail the excessive politicization of our institutions—the Judiciary, the electoral commission, and other independent constitutional bodies—through major constitutional reforms,” he noted.

Mahama also noted that the cost of governance has skyrocketed under President Akufo-Addo’s leadership, resulting in a significant waste of public resources and a bloated administrative apparatus.

Mahama vowed to streamline government operations under his leadership, slashing unnecessary expenses and optimizing state resources to ensure a more efficient and effective use of public funds.

“We will also rein in the phenomenon of bloated government and replace it with a much leaner one. Attendant governance costs, like payment of utility bills, fuel, and ex-gratia payments, will be cancelled,” he added.
