The management of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) has expressed grave concern over the nuisance caused by stray cattle in the metropolis, which is in violation of the STMA bye-law, Control of Livestock 2017.

To address the issue, the assembly has announced that cattle rearers or ranch owners must ensure their animals are kept off the streets and away from households by Monday, 17th February 2025.

In line with the planned enforcement of the bye-law, the Assembly has arranged to impound all stray cattle and prosecute their owners starting Wednesday, 19th February 2025.

“The Assembly has observed with grave concern the nuisance created by stray cattle in the Metropolis contrary to the STMA bye-law, ‘Control of Livestock 2017”.

According to a statement by the Metropolis, cattle rearers and ranch owners in the Metropolis are directed to contact the Head of the Environmental Health Unit of STMA to obtain the appropriate conditions and terms for keeping their animals in the Metropolis before the close of work on Friday, 14th February 2025.

“We therefore announce for the information of cattle rearers or owners of ranches in the Metropolis to keep their animals off the street or near any household on or before Monday, 17th February 2025.”

Additionally, the Assembly has requested the public’s assistance in reporting any cattle rearer or ranch operator within their neighborhood to the Metro Environmental Health Officer through the Client Service Unit with live pictures and videos.

“The Assembly counts on the cooperation of the public in this regard.”
