Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, and Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has urged Ministers of State who double as Members of Parliament to prioritize their responsibilities in Parliament, warning that excuses for absenteeism will no longer be tolerated in the coming weeks.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Friday May 30, Annoh-Dompreh emphasized that while some ministers dutifully attend proceedings, others have been noticeably absent, failing to engage in critical discussions.

He praised the Minister for Roads and Highways, Governor Kwame Agbodza for his consistent presence and noted that Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, Health Minister has followed suit, urging other ministers to take a cue from them.

“We will not countenance excuses in the coming weeks. This is Parliament, and they must prioritize the work of Parliament”.

Annoh-Dompreh also expressed concern over the absence of Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson, stressing that key financial matters remain unresolved.

He highlighted outstanding payments for the Common Fund, GETFund projects, and the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) formula, which are yet to receive official assent.

“You can see the sadness on the faces of workers in the assemblies. No show—the assemblies are unhappy, the ministers are not happy. Why should the Finance Minister decide when he wants to pay the Common Fund? He must be programmed to attend the House and tell us what the plans are to honor these payments”.

The MP urged the Majority Leader to take these concerns into account when planning parliamentary activities going forward, emphasizing the need for greater accountability and ministerial engagement in legislative affairs.
