Ofori-Atta’s Family challenges INTERPOL Red Notice, alleges abuse of power by Special Prosecutor

The family of Ken Ofori-Atta, former Finance Minister, is calling for the immediate withdrawal of an INTERPOL Red Notice issued against him, accusing the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP)of abuse of administrative power and violations of fundamental human rights.

In a formal petition to the National Central Bureau and the Commission for the Control of INTERPOL’s Files (CCF), the family alleges that the OSP deliberately manipulated evidence and sidestepped judicial protocols to obtain an arrest warrant dated February 11, 2025.

The warrant accuses Mr. Ofori-Atta of “using public office for private profit.”

According to the family, the arrest warrant was issued without an accompanying affidavit, raising concern about procedural irregularities. Additionally, they argue that Mr. Ofori-Atta has not been formally charged in court, further calling into question the legitimacy of the case against him.

Beyond procedural issues, the family cites health concerns, stating that Mr. Ofori-Atta is currently undergoing cancer treatment in the United States.

They claim that he had requested a video-recorded interview with investigators due to his medical condition, but the OSP allegedly refused to accommodate the request.

“This is not just a legal matter—it is a human rights issue. No one should be subjected to such undue hardship, especially while fighting a life-threatening illness.”

The matter is now under review by the Human Rights Court of Ghana, where a ruling is expected on June 18, 2025.
