The Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association has launched an enforcement exercise starting today Monday, September 8, 2025, to uphold Section 27(1) of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) Act, 2013 (Act 865), which prohibits non-citizens from engaging in petty trading and market retail.

In a statement signed by Director of Communications Takyi Addo, the Association said the move aims to protect Ghanaian traders from unlawful competition.

“Successive governments have failed to ensure full enforcement of this Act, resulting in a persistent drain on the businesses of Ghanaian traders. The time has come to uphold the law and protect local enterprise from unlawful competition,” Addo stated.

The group emphasized that it is not opposed to foreign investment, but insists that all investors must operate within Ghana’s legal framework.

“We welcome investment that supports national development, but it must comply with our trade laws,” the statement added.

The Association has called on government agencies and stakeholders to support the initiative, warning that continued violations threaten the survival of indigenous businesses.
