Alleged National Security Thievery: Security Expert expresses shock

Security Expert, Adib Sani, has expressed shock at the report that National Security Operatives who raided two casinos in Asankragua in the Amenfi West constituency destroyed all CCTV cameras on site.

He reasoned that if their activity was to clamp down on illegal activities such as illegal gold refinery, gold trading and other illicit activities undertaken by the Chinese at the casinos, then it would have been wise to allow the CCTV cameras to capture their raid.

But as the situation was the opposite, he believes their activity was suspicious.

He shared with Samuel Eshun on the Happy Morning Show: “What shocked me most than any other thing is why they targeted the CCTV. Because from the information I have picked up, the national security guys had to switch off the CCTV. I thought rather they will need the CCTV more than any other person. I presumed that at least you would allow it to record so that at least you will even use it as evidence if you are to prosecute them. The way they do their things is disturbing”.

The security expert further stated that over the period, the National Security’s actions in certain issues even when they are right often backfires because of the poor manner they handle the issue.

Citing a notable example, Adib Sani was of the view that journalist Caleb Kudah was wrong to have taken pictures of a security installation. However, the manner in which the national security operatives handled the situation made them look bad in the eyes of Ghanaians.

In his submission, Adib, shared that he was disappointed in the way the security operatives appeared to conduct their raid. “Trust me, if you come to my house dressed like this, I will shoot at you without hesitation. You dress like an armed robber and claim to be an undercover operative. What is undercover about dressing like an armed robber?”.

Background

The Inspector-General of Police, Mr. James Oppong-Boanuh, has commenced investigations into allegations of assault and thievery by National Security operatives during a raid on two Chinese-owned Casinos in Asankragua in the Amenfi West constituency.

As contained in a news report by The Fourth Estate, the Member of Parliament for Amenfi West, Eric Afful had petitioned the IGP to investigate the issue “detailing the rampage within his constituency, the brazen lawlessness, and the sense of insecurity and fear in the wake of the National Security raid.”

The raid on the Chinese-owned casinos occurred on May 7, 2021.
