The youth of Sabon Zongo in Accra have launched a major anti-drug campaign, resulting in the closure of over 20 shops and the confiscation of several sacks containing substances such as weed, codeine, Tramadol, and other illegal drugs.

The operation, which took place on the afternoon of Sunday, April 20, specifically targeted shops and drug dens believed to be distributing illicit substances in the community.

Rising concern over increasing drug abuse especially among young people, teenagers, and even children prompted the youth to take decisive action.

The operation was carried out with the approval of local authorities and the Chief Imam.

Speaking to the media, Mohammed Hashiru, Deputy Spokesperson for the No Drugs in Zongo Movement, stated that this is just the beginning, and similar crackdowns will be conducted regularly.
