The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has announced plans to lower passport application fee from GH¢500 to GH¢350.
The move, representing more than 25% decrease, is aimed at making passports more accessible to citizens while maintaining high security standards.
The Minister made the announcement while addressing Parliament on March 13, 2025.
“The government recognizes concerns about the affordability of the new passport and is committed to ensuring that the cost remains reasonable while maintaining high security standards”.
He added that, “in our effort to make passports more accessible to all Ghanaians, and per the instruction I have received from the president, we are pleased to announce that the cost of the ordinary passport booklet, the 32-page, will be reduced from GH¢500 to GH¢350”.
Okudzeto Ablakwa indicated that, government is committed to ensuring that the reduction is implemented, hence, it will present an amendment of fees and charges for approval in Parliament in the coming days.
“We will, in the coming days, be presenting the amendment of the fees and charges to ensure that this reduction is approved by the House”.
Additionally, the Minister revealed plans to introduce a door-to-door passport delivery service as part of a new 24-hour service initiative.
