The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has praised the strong relationship between Christians and Muslims in the Volta Region, describing it as a shining example of the unity needed to sustain peace and stability across the country.

Speaking at an engagement with Christian and Muslim leaders as well as Zongo Chiefs in Ho, the Minister said the Volta Region remains one of the most peaceful regions in Ghana, attributing this to the spirit of coexistence and cooperation among its people.

Muntaka noted that peace and security cannot be taken for granted and require continuous dialogue and collaboration among stakeholders.

“Without peace, there can be no development. Security is built on trust, dialogue, and unity, and it is important that every community understands this,” he stated.

The Interior Minister also raised concerns about security threats facing the sub-region, warning that the risk of terrorism remains a challenge that requires vigilance and collective action.

He stressed that preventing terrorist attacks would depend on sustained collaboration among communities, security agencies and other stakeholders, as well as divine guidance.

Muntaka further expressed concern over the growing incidence of drug abuse in the Volta Region and across the country, describing the situation as alarming.

He called on religious leaders to use their platforms to educate the youth about the dangers of drug abuse and encourage them to pursue productive and responsible lifestyles.

The engagement formed part of the Minister’s working visit to the Volta Region aimed at strengthening social cohesion, promoting peace and enhancing security across the country.
