The National Ambulance Service and the Ho Municipal Hospital have conducted a joint emergency simulation exercise in Ho to strengthen emergency preparedness and improve coordination in responding to medical emergencies.

The exercise, held on May 27, 2026, formed part of activities marking World Emergency Medicine Week 2026 and was organised by the Ho Central Ambulance Station in collaboration with the Accident and Emergency Unit of Ho Municipal Hospital.

Led by Physician Assistant in Emergency Medical Technology (PAEMT) Henry Horlali Mawugbe, the simulation recreated a mass casualty incident involving 10 victims who were suspected to have suffered food poisoning during a social event.

Emergency response teams rapidly assessed, treated and stabilised the victims at the scene before transporting them to the hospital’s Emergency Unit for further medical attention.

The exercise was designed to test the readiness of emergency personnel and strengthen collaboration between pre-hospital and hospital-based healthcare providers in managing large-scale medical emergencies.

Officials said the simulation also provided an opportunity for personnel from both institutions to evaluate and refine their response protocols in a controlled environment, helping to identify areas for improvement and enhance overall operational efficiency.

The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts by the National Ambulance Service and Ho Municipal Hospital to improve coordinated emergency response and ensure the delivery of timely, efficient and quality healthcare services to the public.

Health authorities noted that regular simulation exercises remain essential in preparing emergency responders to effectively manage real-life incidents and save lives.
