Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has called on Ghanaians to accept Ghana’s High Commissioner to South Africa, Mr George Ayisi-Boateng apology on comments he made in Kumasi saying he will put the interests of NPP members before any other Ghanaian.
Addressing some members of the Tertiary Students’ Confederacy Network (TESCON) at a ceremony to usher in fresh students of Kumasi Technical University into the network over the weekend, Mr Ayisi-Boateng said members of the governing NPP and its student wing are his priority in his dealings at his duty post.
His comment sparked massive public outcry with the minority in Parliament and other high ranking figures in the country calling on President Akofo Addo to sack him as soon as possible.
Mr Ablakwah earlier in an interview had said ‘’Without a doubt, H.E Ayisi Boateng’s comments are worse than that of Hon. William Quaitoo – the Deputy Agric Minister who resigned a while ago for tribal bigotry’’.
”This dangerous envoy must jump or be pushed”.
But Ayisi-Boateng having realized he goofed on Wednesday evening rendered an unqualified apology to the Presidency as well as Ghanaians over his comment divisive comments.
Speaking on Abusua Nkommo hosted by Kwame Adinka on Abusua 96.5 FM, Okudzeto Ablakwa said he accepts Ayisi-Boateng’s apology despite initially calling for his removal from office and that Ghanaians should also forgive him wholeheartedly since he has been ”remorseful”.
”Kwame I think his Excellency Ayisi-Boateng has done the needful though he was forced to do so but I think he should be forgiven. Personally I accept his apology as an individual and not a party.”
”Let’s all (Ghanaians) forgive him so we can move on as a nation because I believe there are lessons to be learnt from what he has done’’ Added Mr Ablakwah.
He further disclosed that the opposition National Democratic Congress, NDC will hold a meeting on Thursday morning to make their thoughts on Mr George Ayisi-Boateng’s apology known to Ghanaians.
