The Government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Finance, and the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) have announced the successful resolution of issues surrounding a US$750 million financing facility signed in 2022.
The disagreement centred on the classification of the US$750 million facility within Ghana’s debt restructuring programme, with Afreximbank seeking preferred-creditor status that would exempt the loan from restructuring, while the government maintained it should be treated as part of the country’s commercial debt.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Finance, the agreement was resolved to the satisfaction of both parties, paving the way for continued collaboration in support of Ghana’s development agenda.
The statement said the resolution underscores the strong partnership between Ghana and Afreximbank and reaffirms their shared commitment to advancing economic growth and development in the country.
According to the Ministry, the successful conclusion of the discussions will enable both parties to deepen cooperation and sustain ongoing and future initiatives aimed at supporting Ghana’s economic recovery and long-term development objectives.
