Minority criticizes majority over poor attendance to Parliament

The Minority caucus in Parliament has criticized the Majority caucus for failing to attend Friday’s parliamentary proceedings in significant numbers.

This follows concerns raised by the Minority over the lack of quorum, as the required minimum of 91 Members of Parliament was not met for parliamentary business on March 7, 2025.

Due to the lack of quorum, First Deputy Speaker Bernard Ahiafor suspended the House.

In response, Kwadaso MP, Professor Kingsley Nyarko, expressed his concern about the situation while speaking to journalists.

He emphasized the importance of having one-third of the House present to commence business and criticized the NDC for struggling to get their members to attend.

“We need one- third of the House to commence business. We come to the House to work.”

He added that, “Ghanaians voted for us to come to the House to conduct business. The NDC claims to be the super majority, but they struggle to get their members to come to the House to do business”.

Professor Nyarko described the situation as embarrassing and worrying, questioning how long it could continue.

“Today what we have seen is just embarrassing. For us, this is worrying. How long can we continue to do this?”.

He urged the NDC to take the business of the House seriously, as Ghanaians expect their representatives to meet their needs and aspirations.

“We want Ghanaians to know and to tell our friends from the NDC to take the business of the House seriously because Ghanaians expect alot from us. They want us to meet their needs and aspirations”.
