Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen, former Trade Minister and prominent figure within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expressed discontentment over the treatment he has received from party executives during his long-standing period with the ruling NPP.

In a strongly-worded announcement today, September 25, 2023, Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen officially announced his resignation from the party and declared his intention to run as an independent candidate in the 2024 General Elections. His decision to break away from the NPP is accompanied by a series of scathing remarks, shedding light on the factors that led to his departure.

Alan Kyerematen’s stated, “It is abundantly clear to me that my services and contributions to the Party are not appreciated, and that my continuous stay in the Party will create further tension and division, which is an exact replay of circumstances that led to my decision to resign from the Party in 2008.”

He went on to express his concerns about the direction the NPP has taken, stating, “The Party has been hijacked by a selected group of Party leaders and elders, government appointees, ‘behind the curtain power brokers,’ and some unscrupulous Party apparatchiks.”

Alan Kyerematen’s comments shed light on the internal strife and divisions within the NPP, which he believes have stifled his ability to contribute effectively to the party’s goals. He further asserted, “It is common knowledge that any Party member who is associated directly or indirectly with Alan is treated with disdain and considered an outcast.”

These remarks underscore the depth of Alan Kyerematen’s dissatisfaction with the party’s leadership and internal dynamics, ultimately leading to his decision to leave the NPP and pursue an independent presidential candidacy for the 2024 elections.

Ghana is left to consider the effects of Alan Kyerematen’s departure and his choice to run in the upcoming elections outside of the party structure as it observes this political drama as it plays out. This action could alter Ghana’s political environment and put long-standing conventions to the test. Keep checking back for further developments in this political narrative as it develops.
