The Greater Accra Regional Youth Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Amorse Blessing Amos has strongly criticized the National Service Scheme, labeling it a “National Suffering Scheme”. In a recent radio interview monitored by Happyghana.com, Amos expressed concern that the scheme, intended to benefit university graduates, has become a source of suffering for them instead. He highlighted the long-standing issue of delayed allowances, which the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) government has failed to address.

Amos cited the example of a student from the Northern region who completes tertiary education in the same region, only to be posted to the Ashanti Region for national service. This, he argued, forces the individual to incur additional expenses on rent and other necessities, which can be a significant burden given their recent graduate status. He questioned how these individuals are expected to cope with these expenses, emphasizing the stress and hardship this causes for the youth.

Amos emphasized that the NDC administration is committed to addressing the numerous challenges plaguing the National Service Scheme, with the goal of improving it for the benefit of all stakeholders.
