The Concerned Drivers Association has served notice that transport fares will be increased beginning December 20, citing rising operational costs despite recent declines in national inflation figures.
National Chairman of the Association, William Osei popularly known as Paa Willie explained that commercial drivers are struggling to keep their vehicles on the road as prices of spare parts and maintenance materials continue to escalate.
Speaking on the Happy Morning Show with host Fati Shaibu-Ali, he noted that tyres, lubricants and other essential components have seen significant price hikes, creating severe financial pressure for drivers and transport operators.
Paa Willie stressed that although government data points to economic stability, the reality for drivers tells a different story.
He added that the impending fare adjustment is not intended to burden commuters, but to ensure that drivers do not operate at a loss and can sustain their livelihoods.
The Concerned Drivers Association is expected to announce the exact percentage increment in the coming days.
