The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has reported a relatively calm Christmas period on Ghana’s roads, with no major road crashes recorded between December 24 and 26—an outcome authorities say marks a significant improvement compared to previous years.
The Director-General of the NRSA, Abraham Amaliba, described the reduction in serious accidents during the peak festive period as encouraging, while stressing that road safety remains a major national concern.
“I’m happy to announce that during the Yuletide, particularly on the 24th, 25th and 26th, we did not record any major accidents compared to previous years. For me, that is a positive development,” he said.
Mr. Amaliba attributed most road crashes in Ghana to a combination of human and systemic factors, including excessive speeding, non-compliance with traffic regulations, and inadequate driver training.
