The Women’s Caucus in Ghana’s Parliament has begun a sensitization campaign across trading and market areas in Accra, ahead of a planned decongestion exercise by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) in the La Nkwantanan Municipality.
The delegation, made up entirely of female Members of Parliament and led by the MP for Ada and Chairperson of the Caucus, Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe, launched the outreach on Thursday, June 19, with visits to various sections of the Madina Market.
An update shared via the Parliament of Ghana’s official social media platforms indicated that market women were briefed on the upcoming exercise, which is being led by the AMA to restore order and cleanliness within key public spaces.
Acknowledging the intensity of the upcoming crackdown, Madam Cudjoe advised municipal guards in La Nkwantanan to proceed with caution and empathy, emphasizing the importance of educating traders on the rationale behind the initiative.
