The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon Henry Quartey announced that the ban of motor tricycles popularly known as “Aboboyaa” on the Accra-Tema motorway was to take effect from yesterday, November 1st 2021.
However, recent reports indicate that some waste collectors using the ‘Aboboya’ are still plying the highway to dump waste at the Kpone landfill site.
But Commanding Officer of the Central Motor Transport & Traffic Department (MTTD) DCOP Martin Ayiih, has said that even though there has been a delay in the enforcement of the ban, his outfit will quickly work to ensure that the law is enforced.
He said this during a conversation with Samuel Eshun on the Happy Morning Show aired on Happy 98.9FM and e.TV Ghana.
“We have not started the enforcement yet probably because of some logistics problem but from Wednesday you will see us on the motorway to ensure that Aboboyas use that stretch of the road on the beach road,” he said.
DCOP Martin Ayiih added that ‘Aboboyas’ have become a “nuisance” on our motorways and as such the ban is a step in the right direction.
In other news, however, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Henry Quartey, has indicated that security officers will from today, Tuesday November 2, 2021 patrol the Accra-Tema motorway.
This, he says, is to ensure that tricycles carrying waste do not ply the Motorway following the restrictions placed on them.
According to the Minister, logistics have been provided for the officers to commence operations.
